Background
Starting in the early 90’s as a local youth organisation focused on study & career, JoHo has grown into an international organization with the goal to set up a network of worldwide centers, dealing with international cooperation, personal development and travel. The main focuses of the organization are passing on knowledge, promoting international contacts and awareness and giving advice.

Why
There are many different interpretations of international cooperation. Tolerance, respect, and awareness can be advanced by everyone. Whether you just want to travel, are actively involved in a project, working, or studying abroad, you always contribute to more understanding in the world. International cooperation, and awareness are not only reserved for charity organizations.
They can be obtained and empowered by everyone. JoHo helps to further these causes by providing easy access to information about international cooperation, personal development and travelling. JoHo helps anyone who is interested in these matters to make the right choices out of many possibilities.

JoHo is a not-for-profit organization, an organization where profit, not-for-profit and non-profit-activities take place. The profits from some of the activities enable the organization to finance all non-profit-activities.


JoHo Foundation & JoHo centers Abroad

 JoHo tries to introduce as many people as possible in initiatives in the field of international co-operation, community development, sustainable tourism and nature conservation, in order to create a growing network.

These private initiatives are supported by sending volunteers, trainees or clients. Apart from that these initiatives can call on a number of services in the field of automation, Internet, insurances, marketing and advice. In a few cases it is possible to receive financial support.

These initiatives are characterized by investing in the environment, having a positive effect on the local infrastructure and employment, feeling strongly about the transfer of knowledge, financing themselves when possible and opening up the possibility for donors to visit, participate in or make use of the projects.

Examples: A local Travel clinic that runs an AIDS clinic or a family doctor practice on the side, a language school for travellers with a local training institute or school, a guesthouse that has taken care of a orphanage and a safari camp with a nature conservation project.

What can you expect from a JoHo center abroad?
A center usually makes a choice from the possibilities mentioned below. Some of the services are for JoHo members exclusively and sometimes you also get discounts as a JoHo member.


Activities JoHo in the Netherlands

 In the JoHo centers you will find a:
Fair Trade & Travel store: with everything you need for a far or adventurous journey or a long stay abroad, a travel bookstore with every Lonely Planet guide and maps, phrase books, work abroad guides, a Travel pharmacy, a Backpack corner, etc.

Travel Agency: a specialized travel agency, where travelers can get tickets more cheaply, students find student tickets, globetrotters get Round-the-World tickets, train passengers get tickets for Transsiberia or Transmongolia Express. On top of all that you can book all language courses abroad, working holidays with animals (from dolphins to apes), Australia tours, adventurous tours & many more.

Work-Internship-Volunteer-Study-Desk: You can come in and sign up at every JoHo center for mediation of paid jobs, volunteer work or internship abroad. Besides that, you can also find possibilities to study abroad.These services are free to JoHo members!

Money & Insurance Service: At JoHo you can find a number of renowned insurances and specially developed insurances from the most specialized companies for both long and short stay abroad. Our insurance specialists can help you find the best suitable insurance. Apart from that you can count on help concerning questions about foreign money, transferring money, travellers cheques and the like. You can also get international discount cards like the ISIC card and the StayOkay card. You can also submit an application for the provision of grants to volunteers.

Live Abroad Desk: For all your questions concerning expatriate services or setting up your own company or project abroad.

Health Desk: At the JoHo center travel clinic you can get vaccinations and specialized health advice for both long- and short term stays abroad. Our travel doctor is available in Rotterdam all year round and at the JoHo center Amsterdam in the summer season. Furthermore you can find a Travel Pharmacy in all JoHo centers and the JoHo website is full of information about health & traveling.

Information Exchange & Membership: Through the JoHo member- and donorship you contribute to the projects and activities in which JoHo is involved in the field of international cooperation. Besides that, you, as a JoHo cardholder, can get discounts on travel items, insurances, travel & job finding and for example your medical travel preparation at all JoHo centers. Via the JoHo Journals you can receive and place messages on your ‘own’ site, keep a web log for friends and family, simply place pictures and share experiences with other travellers or people living abroad. The JoHo forum is a much sought-after place for asking questions or finding a travel partner.

JoHo Travel Cafe (Hospitality & Catering service): You can come to eat or drink in our JoHo Travel Cafe in the JoHo center Rotterdam. Here you can relax in an international atmosphere and choose from an extensive world menu of Food & Drinks.
